Novak Djokovic’s Heart-to-Heart with Andy Murray Inspires Miami Open Comeback
Novak Djokovic has credited deep conversations with Andy Murray for helping him break his two-month losing streak at the Miami Open. The world No. 5 secured a dominant 6-0, 7-6(1) victory over Rinky Hijikata, marking his first match win since beating Carlos Alcaraz in Australia.
Djokovic, who had struggled with early exits in recent tournaments, admitted to doubting his game. However, he spent nearly two weeks reflecting on his mental and emotional approach alongside Murray and his coaching team. Their discussions reinforced his belief that success would come with consistent effort and focus.
“I spent a lot of time with my team, talking not just about tennis but also about the mental and emotional aspects of the game,” Djokovic told Sky Sports. “Andy and I agreed that if I kept doing the right things in practice, the results would follow.”
Djokovic’s renewed confidence was evident in his performance, where he played “almost flawless” tennis to dominate the first set. His next challenge will be against lucky loser Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the third round as he aims to continue his strong run in Miami.
