Novak Djokovic has committed to playing in the Madrid Open for the first time since 2022, signaling a shift toward a busier schedule in 2025. Tournament organizers confirmed his participation on Tuesday, marking his 13th appearance at the event since debuting in 2006.

Djokovic Expands 2025 Schedule

After years of a reduced schedule, the 24-time Grand Slam champion has begun competing in more tournaments this season. Earlier this year, Djokovic returned to the Qatar Open for the first time since 2019 and is currently playing at the Miami Open after a six-year absence.

For the upcoming clay season, Djokovic has already committed to the Monte Carlo Masters and now adds Madrid to his calendar.

“I’m looking to play more tournaments this year than last season. Hopefully, my level will go up, and my ranking will be where it should be,” Djokovic said at the Brisbane International in January.

Success in Madrid

Djokovic has won the Madrid Open three times (2011, 2016, 2019) and boasts an impressive 30-9 record at the event. His last appearance in 2022 ended in a semi-final loss to Carlos Alcaraz.

In addition to his expanded schedule, Djokovic recently extended his coaching partnership with former rival Andy Murray, who is expected to join him at select clay-court events.

Djokovic is currently in action at the Miami Open, where he has advanced to the round of 16 to face Lorenzo Musetti.
