Novak Djokovic has revealed that his brother, Marko Djokovic, will be stepping into the coaching role at the Monte Carlo Masters in the absence of Andy Murray.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion made headlines earlier this year by teaming up with former rival Murray for the 2025 season. The surprising partnership has already seen success, with Djokovic making a semi-final run at the Australian Open and reaching the final in Miami.

Now beginning his clay-court campaign in Monte Carlo, Djokovic confirmed at his pre-tournament press conference that Murray was never scheduled to join him for this leg of the season.

“I’m here with my brother—he’s helping me as my tennis coach this week,” Djokovic said.
“It was never part of the plan for Andy to be here. I was thinking about who I might want around, and Marko was happy to join me. It helps emotionally too—I don’t get to spend much time with him, so it’s great.”

Where’s Murray?

When asked about Murray’s current whereabouts, Djokovic responded with a smile:

“I have no idea, to be honest. I spoke to him about four or five days ago, and he was back home. Probably working on his golf swing—that’s his focus this week, I guess!”

Djokovic confirmed that the two debriefed after Miami and are scheduled to reconnect at the Madrid Open later this month.

“Miami ended on a bitter note, losing in the finals, but overall I played great tennis—didn’t drop a set until then, served well, felt good. Just unlucky in the tiebreaks.

We’re planning to work together in Madrid. Roland Garros? We’ll talk about that after Madrid.”

Djokovic’s 2025 So Far

  • Australian Open: Reached semi-finals, defeating Carlos Alcaraz before injury forced him to retire against Zverev.
  • Indian Wells: Suffered a shock early exit to Botic van de Zandschulp.
  • Miami Open: Runner-up after a strong showing, only losing in the final.
