With Andy Murray unavailable to join his coaching team this week, Novak Djokovic will have a familiar and heartfelt presence in his corner at the Monte-Carlo Masters — his younger brother, Marko Djokovic.

Speaking about the last-minute coaching switch, the World No. 1 explained the situation during a press interaction:

“It was never part of the plan to have Andy with me this week. Fortunately, my brother Marko was able to join, and that means a lot emotionally. I’ll get to spend some quality time with him while we’re on the road.”

A New Chapter With Murray Was Never Guaranteed

Earlier this season, Djokovic opened up about his evolving coaching needs as he enters the latter phase of his career. After months of reflection, the Serbian legend said he was seeking someone who could relate to his journey — someone who had experienced the pressures of being at the top.

“It took about six months to figure out what I needed at this stage of my career. I realized the ideal coach would be someone who’s been through what I’m going through — ideally a multiple Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1.”

That thought process eventually led to a surprising but welcome call to Andy Murray.

“We discussed Andy and I decided to reach out. It caught him a bit off guard, but we connected quickly, and after a few days, he accepted.”

Djokovic Eyes 100th Career Title

As Djokovic gears up for another run at the Monte-Carlo Masters, he’s also chasing a major milestone — his 100th career ATP Tour title. With his brother Marko providing on-site support, the 24-time Grand Slam winner hopes to channel some extra motivation during one of his favorite events on the calendar.
