“Oh my gosh, I’m in trouble guys”: Mirra Andreeva provides cheeky answer to question about coach Conchita Martinez after Australian Open first-round win
Russia’s rising tennis star, Mirra Andreeva, shared a cheeky response when asked about the fun of working with her coach, Conchita Martínez. The 17-year-old, already regarded as a future tennis sensation, has impressed fans with her incredible performances on the court.
Andreeva began her 2025 Australian Open campaign with a confident win, defeating Marie Bouzkova 6-3, 6-3. During her post-match interview, she was asked whether working with Martínez was fun. Her playful response left the room laughing, though she quickly added that she might be “in trouble” for what she said. “No, it depends on her mood to be honest,” Andreeva teased. “I would say she’s an okay coach. Oh my gosh, I’m in trouble, guys.”
The world number 15 went on to explain the humor between them, noting that Martínez’s sense of humor has evolved since they started working together. “I would say now that she has a better sense of humor with me,” Andreeva revealed. “Before, it was, you know, not so good. It was okay. Now when she’s with me, everyone is always laughing at her jokes, thanks to me.”
Andreeva also praised her coach for helping her become more fearless on the court. “With her, I became closer to being fearless,” she said. “Before, I would never play a volley on match point. Now, I decided, why not? Marie was putting every ball back. I was so tired, like, ‘What is this?’”
She concluded by sharing her fondness for their relationship, describing how they balance humor with focus. “I like to joke around. Sometimes I don’t like to be too serious. I always try to smile and laugh, it’s just easier that way. Actually, I was surprised that she’s also pretty much like me. Since we started working together, I’ve noticed she’s always trying to tell a joke or laugh sometimes. I really like that, and I appreciate that she knows how to keep things serious when we’re on court.”
