Paris Olympics: No Stopping Coco Gauff From Dream American Glory as WTA Rivals Go on a Withdrawal Spree With Ons Jabeur Being the Latest
Another day and yet another name out of the Paris Olympics list. Players are currently busy preparing themselves for a transition between surfaces and sticking with it. While this year demands a little extra because of the Olympics underway, several WTA stars have withdrawn from participation. Coco Gauff, who is all set and aboard with the dream of a medal in her eye, seems to be benefitted as another top 10 name announces withdrawal.
The world is eager to witness players battle for national glory. As the Paris Olympics approach, nations from all across the globe have decided to finalize their roster. While many renowned names from the WTA line have already shocked the world with their denials, Ons Jabeur added herself to the list.
In a recent revelation on her Instagram story, the French Open quarter-finalist mentioned that she’s not physically ready to face the intense tussles at the Paris Olympics. “After consulting with my medical team regarding attending the Olympics in Paris, we have decided that the quick change of surface and the body’s adaptation required would put my knee at risk. Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate in the Paris Olympics 2024,” she shared.

It has been nearly a year since Ons Jabeur had to go through knee surgery. Although the WTA star has started to cope with the tour events lately, it seems like there’s still a way to go before she can play at 100%. Although it may be a saddening update for her nation, it is apparently a positive one for Coco Gauff.
After the remarkable addition of a doubles grand slam to her glittering portfolio, the young American is now looking forward to chasing glory for the nation. With notable competitors like Aryna Sabalenka, Paula Badosa, and Emma Raducanu already having announced that they will not play the games, another top 10 player going off has reduced another hurdle from her path. Despite this, one big danger still stands in the way for Gauff.
Iga Swiatek set to challenge Coco Gauff’s Olympic dream
The announcement of several players not playing at the upcoming Paris Olympics is surely a sigh of relief for every player who aims to achieve a medal. Even after several competitors have decided to clear Coco Gauff’s path, Iga Swiatek is still blocking the way.
The tennis world witnessed the Pole’s unmatched dominance at Roland Garros. While she made it evident that her claws are deep under the red dirt, the Paris Olympics could prove to be the place where she wins her first Olympic gold, and Poland’s 78th. Along with being a four-time champion, Swiatek has also proved to be the biggest hurdle for the young American.
In a total of 12 showdowns that they took part in, Swiatek served her with disappointing defeats 11 times. This also includes the semi-final defeat at Roland Garros that marked an end to Coco Gauff’s dream for a singles title on clay, for the third time in a row. There’s a high chance that they could see each other once again at the games, which will be a big challenge for the American sensation. Will she be able to thump Swiatek if they meet?
