The Spanish tennis player talks about all the problems that have afflicted her in the last year
Paula Badosa has reached the second round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, a tournament where she has always done well and where she played yesterday beating the Russian rising star Mirra Andreeva. The Spaniard is about to challenge the American Emma Navarro in the second round (with the match scheduled in these minutes). Paula gave an interview to Tennis Channel, talking about the Rome tournament, her victory with Andreeva and how recent times have been very hard for her.
“It’s always nice to come back here, the one with Mirra was a great victory. She’s a great player and has an incredible future, I love how competitive she is and I think she has a very promising future ahead of her. I followed my game plan throughout the match and I’m happy that it went well. I think in her case you have to deal with your emotions and it’s never easy, I think she’ll do it easily and she’s a smart player.
Goals? I honestly don’t have any, I’m just trying to enjoy the court. I want to play as much as possible, maybe two or three matches in a row. Last year I got injured in Rome and a lot of things have changed since then, Emma is one of the best on the circuit and she is having an incredible year. I hope it will be a good fight. Lately I’ve found myself playing but due to my injury I realized that I couldn’t play too many matches in a row. I also think mentally she has affected my esteem a lot and I am working every day to reach the top,” she said.
