Pep Guardiola is currently in the final year of his contract as Manchester City’s manager.
With eight years under his belt at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola said at the end of the previous season after seeing his side become the first team to win four consecutive Premier League trophies, that he is leaning towards leaving the club (via Sky Sports).
Now that the summer break is almost over and the 2024/25 season is approaching, the 53-year-old has shared a fresh update on what the future could hold for him at the Manchester club.
Pep Guardiola addresses Man City future ahead of AC Milan game
Speaking in a recent press conference (via Man City) ahead of his side’s latest pre-season friendly match against AC Milan, Guardiola said this when asked about the possibility of him extending his contract at the club.
He said: “I did not rule it out to extend the contract. I would love to stay because I would love to stay. Nine years in the same club today is an eternity.
“So I want to be sure that it’s the right decision, not just for me but the club and the players – they run like they did for eight years.
“It doesn’t matter the competition, the tournament, this is what I have to see. I am sure eight more years I won’t stay!
“It’s good to refresh, for players and managers. At the same time, we have had success and are still winning Premier Leagues, arriving in the last stages and we are playing competitions like the Champions League.
“This is my feeling right now.”
City fans should be hopeful that Guardiola will extend his contract
Having overlooked 472 games in total with the Blues, winning 349 of them and lifting many trophies along the way, there’s no doubt that Guardiola has been a key figure for City since his arrival in 2016.
In fact, Alan Shearer said at the end of the previous Premier League campaign that the Spaniard was undeniably the best manager in the top flight last term.
With these latest comments in mind, we feel that the City supporters should have a lot to be hopeful about in terms of potentially seeing Guardiola extend his contract at the club and stay in his role beyond the upcoming season.
