Earlier this week, the PTPA announced legal action against the ATP, accusing them of “anti-competitive practices and a blatant disregard for player welfare.”

Now, BBC Sport’s Russell Fuller reports that the PTPA returned to court on Friday after discovering that the ATP allegedly pressured players into signing pre-written statements claiming they had no prior knowledge of the lawsuit. Additionally, the ATP is accused of threatening to cut player prize money and redirect those funds toward legal fees.

In response, the PTPA requested a court order to prevent the ATP, WTA, ITF, and ITIA from contacting players about their involvement in the case.

ATP Denies Allegations, Vows to Defend Itself

The ATP swiftly responded to the claims, strongly rejecting the accusations and vowing to fight the lawsuit.

“We strongly reject the premise of the PTPA’s claims, believe the case to be entirely without merit, and will vigorously defend our position,” the ATP said in a statement.

Djokovic Weighs In on the Lawsuit

Novak Djokovic, who co-founded the PTPA with Vasek Pospisil in 2020, acknowledged that he has mixed feelings about the lawsuit.

“I’ve seen some changes, but there are fundamental issues that still need to be addressed. I hope all the governing bodies, including the PTPA, can come together to resolve these matters,” Djokovic said.

“This is a classic legal battle—lawyers handling things. To be honest, there are aspects of the lawsuit I agree with, and others I don’t.”

As the legal dispute unfolds, the battle between the PTPA and ATP continues to intensify.
