Manchester City became the first side to ever win four consecutive Premier League titles last season.

Across their 38 league games, City won 28, drew seven and lost three, scoring 96 goals and conceding 34 along the way.

With Pep Guardiola’s side now on the hunt for another league trophy, they have had a perfect start to their latest campaign, winning all four played games and scoring more goals (11) than any other side in the division in doing so.

Now though, one particular figure in City’s squad has been highlighted by a pundit as being a cut above some of his teammates.

Tony Cascarino picks Phil Foden in combined City and Arsenal XI

In a recent article for The Times, Tony Cascarino built a combined City and Arsenal XI ahead of Sunday’s big game between the two clubs.

For one of the wide positions, the pundit chose Phil Foden and then said this about the Englishman.

He said: “Jeremy Doku is there, Savinho is good, Leandro Trossard is decent and so is Jack Grealish but I would always pick Foden ahead of all of them.

“His work rate is incredible; Grealish has different qualities but Foden puts so much energy out in a game and he will outscore Grealish. There is such a lot to his game.”

Foden is one of City’s star players

Last season saw Foden score 19 goals and supply eight assists in 35 league matches, leaving only Erling Haaland (32) with more goal contributions in the City squad.

It was also 23 more goal contributions than Grealish managed to register last season, even though the winger only started 10 of the 20 league matches he appeared in.

This season has seen the Englishman make just one appearance in the league, although Guardiola said in a recent press conference that he is delighted to have Foden back fit again.

Having been named Premier League Player of the Season last term, it’s easy to see why Cascarino has included Foden in this combined XI over the likes of Grealish, Savinho, Doku and Trossard.
