Jack Grealish had a difficult season at Manchester City last time out.
Having played a prominent role in City’s Treble-winning season, the winger then went on to only appear in 20 Premier League games last season, 10 of which he started.
Despite lifting his third consecutive Premier League trophy with Pep Guardiola’s side, the Englishman admitted in an interview with The Athletic at the end of the campaign that he was struggling with certain matters on and off the pitch that impacted his confidence.
Following the summer break, Grealish has been involved in the Manchester club’s pre-season tour of America, featuring in the numerous friendly matches they’ve played in preparation for the 2024/25 season.
This has since led to one pundit sharing his thoughts on the 28-year-old and how he could get his form back on track for the Blues.
Pundit shares how Pep Guardiola can unlock Jack Grealish’s full potential
After seeing Jack Grealish score in City’s recent pre-season friendly match against Barcelona which ended in a 2-2 draw, pundit Steve Nicol had this to say in a recent video uploaded on the ESPN FC YouTube channel about how Guardiola can get the best out of the winger throughout the upcoming season.
He said: “A happy player usually is a good player and you get him in a position, obviously fitness is the first key but after that in terms of psychology, you get them happy, you get them bubbly, you get them on the ball, you try and get them on the ball as much as you can and you try and give them some freedom.
“We know that Pep always seems to be on all of them and everything has to be perfect, the way he has to do it.
“I think with a guy like Jack Grealish, you need to give him a little bit of freedom and if you do that you’ll get both jobs, you’ll get what Pep wants but you’ll also get the little stardust that Jack Grealish has himself, so I think that’s the key for Jack Grealish.”
A big season awaits Grealish
Across his 20 league outings last season, the England international, who Frank Leboeuf recently claimed has become a worse player since joining City, scored three goals and delivered just one assist.
Despite that, Grealish showed how useful he is for the team, as he ended the campaign with the joint-fourth-highest rate of shot-creating actions per 90 minutes (4.82) in the City squad, as well as winning the second-highest number of fouls (41).
Now that Nicol has shared his thoughts on how Grealish can get back on track, we feel that this upcoming season will be a big one for him and give him the chance to prove any doubters wrong.
