Jannik Sinner recently captured his third Grand Slam title at the 2025 Australian Open, continuing his reign as the world number one with a dominant victory over Alexander Zverev in straight sets (6-3, 7-6, 6-3). This marks Sinner’s third consecutive hard-court Grand Slam title, having also won the 2024 US Open and the 2024 Australian Open. Throughout the tournament, Sinner dropped only two sets, with impressive wins over top players like Alex de Minaur and Ben Shelton on his way to the final.

Sinner now enjoys a 3,500-point lead over Zverev in the ATP rankings, further cementing his dominance on tour. However, his place at the top is under threat due to an ongoing doping case. Sinner tested positive for Clostebol in 2024, but the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) initially ruled that he bore no significant fault. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has since appealed this decision, and a hearing is scheduled for April 16-17, 2025, at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland. If found guilty, Sinner could face a ban of up to two years, although the extent of the punishment is still unknown.

Former doubles world number one Rennae Stubbs recently weighed in on the case, criticizing the handling of the situation on her Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast. She expressed frustration with WADA’s timing and suggested that Sinner will likely face a ban, which would be damaging for the sport. “I guarantee you, look out, I think they are going to ban him,” Stubbs said.

Despite this looming uncertainty, Sinner remains focused on his tennis. After his Australian Open victory, Sinner stated that the upcoming CAS hearing did not affect his performance, explaining that he has a clear conscience and believes the case will be resolved in his favor. “If I knew if I would be guilty, I would not play like this,” Sinner said.

The outcome of the CAS hearing will determine whether Sinner can continue his incredible run or if he will be sidelined for a significant period, potentially missing the 2025 French Open and Wimbledon. For now, his legacy continues to grow as he awaits the April decision.
