Emma Raducanu Ends Coaching Trial with Vladimir Platenik After Two Weeks

Emma Raducanu is once again searching for a new coach after parting ways with Vladimir Platenik just two weeks into their trial period. The 2021 US Open champion felt the partnership wasn’t progressing in the right direction and decided to move on.

Earlier this month, Raducanu was spotted working with the Slovak coach at Indian Wells, where she confirmed they were in a trial phase. At the time, the world No. 60 seemed optimistic about the collaboration, suggesting she had found the right fit. However, their partnership came to an abrupt end before the Miami Open.

On Wednesday, Raducanu made an impressive start in Miami, dominating Sayaka Ishii 6-2, 6-1. Notably, Platenik was absent from the stands, fueling speculation about their partnership. Later, Raducanu’s team issued a statement confirming their split.

“Emma and Vlado have parted ways. Emma has the utmost respect for Vlado and the work they started, but it wasn’t quite heading in the right direction,” her management stated. “Emma is now focused on doing as well as she can in Miami after a solid start and will continue looking for the right coach.”

Platenik, a respected coach, has previously worked with Dominika Cibulkova, Daria Kasatkina, and Veronika Kudermetova.

Raducanu has had a turbulent coaching history, splitting with five different coaches in her first two years on tour. Ahead of 2024, she reunited with childhood coach Nick Cavaday, marking the first time she remained with a coach for a full season. However, their partnership ended after Cavaday stepped away due to health concerns.

Despite the coaching uncertainty, Raducanu remains focused on her game. She will face Emma Navarro in the Miami Open second round, looking to build on her strong opening performance.
