“Rich people problems” – Fans feel for lower-ranked players as Jessica Pegula & other top 20 ATP, WTA stars demand Grand Slam prize money hike
“Rich People Problems” – Fans React as Jessica Pegula & Top ATP/WTA Stars Demand Grand Slam Prize Money Increase
Tennis fans had strong reactions after Jessica Pegula and other top-20 ATP and WTA players called for an increase in Grand Slam prize money. While some supported the demand, others felt that lower-ranked players should be the real beneficiaries.
One fan summed up the sentiment:
“More for those outside the top 20 would go a long way.”
Another dismissed the issue as a luxury concern:
“Ah, rich people problems.”
Others argued that early-round players and those in lower-tier tournaments need financial support more than Grand Slam stars:
“Are you kidding me? Nobody deserves a $2.5 million check for two weeks of work. They’re already getting paid enough. Increase the pay for those who play qualifiers up to Round 3!”
Another added:
“Prize money needs to improve for Challenger and 250/500 events. Slam singles already gets tons. Maybe distribute some among earlier rounds and doubles.”
Jessica Pegula & Emma Navarro Address the Pay Dispute
Speaking at the Credit One Charleston Open, Pegula remained tight-lipped about the ongoing discussions:
“I don’t want to talk about it too much. We’re working with our PBRs, WTA, and ATP representatives. Hopefully, we’ll have more information soon, but I don’t think I should go into details right now.”
Emma Navarro also shared her perspective:
“I haven’t given it a ton of my energy, but I spoke with some players and felt it was a good idea to sign. There have been unfair pay ratios in the past, and I think it’s important for us to come together and ensure fair treatment.”
