Sabalenka had no trouble with Montgomery and advanced to the fourth round of the Madrid Open
The world’s second-ranked player, Aryna Sabalenka, advanced to the fourth round of the prestigious WTA 1000 series tournament in Madrid. The 25-year-old tennis player defeated her opponent from the USA, Robin Montgomery, in three sets.
The young American failed to pose a challenge to her renowned opponent in the first set, which she conceded without much resistance — 1:6. However, in the second set, when it came to a tie-break, Montgomery proved stronger. The deciding game of the final set came on the American’s serve, with the score at 4-5 in favor of her opponent. Aryna secured the break, and with it, the victory in the match.
In the next round, Sabalenka will face the world’s 15th-ranked player, another American, Danielle Rose Collins. It’s worth noting that Aryna is defending her title as the champion of last year’s tournament. In the final, then, she defeated Poland’s Iga Swiatek in three sets.
Robin Montgomery (USA, 183) — Aryna Sabalenka (2) — 1:6, 7:6 (7:5), 4:6.
