‘She’s definitely a better player than her’: Pat Cash evaluates Raducanu’s Australian Open chances and compares her to top-seed player
Former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash has expressed confidence in Emma Raducanu’s potential at the upcoming Australian Open. He believes that, if she remains fit and gains more match experience, Raducanu can perform exceptionally well.
Cash compared Raducanu to World No. 8 Emma Navarro, who had a stellar 2024 season, reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open and the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. He stated, “We saw Emma Navarro come through this year, and Raducanu is definitely a better player than her.”
Raducanu’s 2024 season was marked by significant victories, including her first career wins over top-10 players: defeating Jessica Pegula (No. 5) at the Eastbourne International and Maria Sakkari (No. 9) at Wimbledon.
Despite a recent setback due to back pain leading to her withdrawal from the ASB Classic, Raducanu has been training in Melbourne to prepare for the Australian Open. She has been eliminated in the second round in her three previous appearances in Melbourne.
Cash emphasized the importance of Raducanu staying healthy and gaining more match experience, stating, “You just have to hope Raducanu stays fit and gets matches under her belt because she certainly has the talent to do very well.”
Raducanu has also indicated a shift in her preparation strategy, planning to arrive in Australia earlier to acclimate to the conditions and enhance her performance.
As the Australian Open approaches, fans and analysts alike are eager to see if Raducanu can leverage her talent and preparation to make a deep run in the tournament.
