Simona Halep Embracing Life After Tennis, Unsure About Future Career Path

Since retiring from professional tennis, Simona Halep has been enjoying her newfound freedom and exploring her next steps—though she suggests it may not involve sports.

After attempting a 2024 comeback, Halep’s return was cut short due to a lingering knee injury, which also forced her out of the Australian Open. Last month, the former world No. 1 officially bid farewell to the sport, playing her final match in front of home fans in Cluj-Napoca, where she fell to Lucia Bronzetti in the first round. Now, a month and a half later, the 33-year-old is focused on taking a break before deciding her next move.

“I’m not fully involved in business or any other field yet—right now, I’m just resting, enjoying life, and exploring things beyond sports,” Halep said at the Romanian Sports Gala, as quoted by Gazeta Sporturilor. “I don’t know what I’ll do next, but I don’t think it will be related to sports. For now, I just want to rest and appreciate everything I’ve achieved.”

Halep Set for Exhibition Match, Praises Mirra Andreeva

While Halep isn’t planning a return to competitive tennis, she will participate in an exhibition match in Iasi in mid-July—the only event currently on her 2025 schedule. She expressed interest in future exhibition appearances but remains focused on relaxation for now.

Despite stepping away from the sport, Halep still keeps an eye on tennis. She recently tuned in to watch the Indian Wells final, where 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva stunned Aryna Sabalenka with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory. The Romanian legend was thoroughly impressed by the young star’s performance.
