“S**t That’s Unbelievable,” Holger Rune Freaks Out Over Novak Djokovic’s Sweet Ride in Miami and Gives Into His Impulse
Fast cars and flashy lifestyles are par for the course in Monte Carlo—and Holger Rune is the latest tennis star to give in to the high-speed temptation.
During a Tennis TV interview on Tuesday, Rune lit up when asked about the glitzy lifestyle surrounding the Monte Carlo Masters. Surrounded by supercars and yachts, the young Dane admitted he couldn’t resist adding a bit of flash to his own life: he recently bought a brand-new Porsche 911.
Rune laughed as he pointed out a sleek green 911 parked just outside the Monte-Carlo Country Club. “It might be the new Porsche that I just bought, actually,” he joked. But there’s a twist—he still doesn’t have a driver’s license.
With tournaments stacked—Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome—Rune’s busy schedule has made it tough to find time for driving lessons. Still, the impulse to buy came from a familiar source: Novak Djokovic.
Inspired by Novak’s Ride
Rune revealed he first saw Djokovic driving a Porsche 911 in Miami last month. That was all it took.
“I saw it, and I was like, ‘st, that’s unbelievable.’ I need this one.**”
Djokovic’s ride, a beastly €275,000 sports car with over 600 horsepower and a 0–100 km/h time of just 2.8 seconds, clearly made an impression—even if Djokovic didn’t win the Miami Open.
Holger’s History With Luxury Cars (And No License)
This isn’t Rune’s first car that he can’t drive. In both 2022 and 2023, after winning the BMW Open in Munich, Rune was awarded a BMW i4 M50 Gran Coupe. Unfortunately, without a license, the cars turned into family vehicles.
“The winning car from last year has become our family car now. Mostly my father drives it,” Rune told Bild. “I still haven’t got my driver’s license. It’s on my list, but it’s very time-consuming.”
Rune and Djokovic: A Bond Beyond Cars
Rune’s admiration for Djokovic goes well beyond wheels. The two have trained together annually in Monte Carlo since 2021, and though they skipped their usual pre-tournament session this year, the respect runs deep.
They’ve met six times on court, with Djokovic leading 4–2. But Rune famously beat him in the 2023 Rome quarterfinals, one of the standout wins of his career.
“He’s someone who inspires me a lot, as well as being a very nice person,” Rune said in a past interview.
Off the Road, But Off the Court Too—for Now
Rune was set to play Nuno Borges in Monte Carlo but had to withdraw due to a wrist injury. While fans will miss seeing him in action, they’re hoping he recovers in time for the clay court season to hit full throttle.
As for the Porsche? Until that license comes through, it might just be another stylish ride for Rune’s dad.
