Taylor Fritz Withdraws from Acapulco Due to Injury

World No. 4 Taylor Fritz has officially withdrawn from the ATP 500 event in Acapulco, which begins on February 24. The American star announced his decision on Instagram, citing an ongoing abdominal injury that has hindered his performance in recent weeks.

Fritz, the 2024 US Open runner-up, revealed that he initially sustained the injury just before the Dallas Open but attempted to play through it.

“Really sad that I have to pull out of Acapulco this year. I’ve been dealing with an abdominal injury since the week before Dallas. I have been playing through the injury, hoping that it could get better because several parts of my game were and still are pain-free. I’m at a point now where it has not improved, and it’s frustrating to be playing when I know I can’t play 100% and am avoiding certain shots or just hitting shots differently than I normally would to avoid the pain. Acapulco has always been one of my favorite events, and I’m really sorry to let the tournament down. I’m hoping that giving it this week to rest and rehab will get me back to 100% soon,” Fritz wrote.

The withdrawal is another setback for Fritz, who has struggled for form early in the season. His Australian Open campaign ended in the third round following a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6, 6-4 loss to Gaël Monfils. He then suffered an early exit at the Dallas Open, falling in the second round to Denis Shapovalov (2-6, 6-3, 7-6), and faced another disappointing defeat at the Delray Beach Open, where Alejandro Davidovich Fokina eliminated him in the second round (7-6, 7-6).
