Taylor Fritz Withdraws from Monte-Carlo Masters as Injury Woes Continue

Taylor Fritz has withdrawn from the 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters just hours before the tournament draw, as his ongoing battle with an abdominal injury forces yet another setback.

The American has been managing the issue since the ATP 500 event in Acapulco earlier this season. Despite reaching the semifinals in Miami, Fritz aggravated the injury during that run and has since been unable to fully recover. His campaign in Indian Wells also ended in the fourth round, where he was defeated by Jack Draper.

Fritz’s decision not to travel to Monaco signals a more cautious approach as the tour intensifies. With crucial ranking points to defend later in the season—particularly from his US Open final appearance—Fritz is walking a tightrope between recovery and the pressure to stay competitive.

Signs of trouble emerged earlier in the week when Fritz withdrew from the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) exhibition in Nîmes.

“I was super excited to come back to the UTS Tour after making the final in Los Angeles in 2023,” Fritz said.
“Unfortunately, I aggravated an abdominal injury during my semifinal in Miami, and I won’t be able to recover in time for Bastide Médical UTS Nîmes. I was really looking forward to playing in this iconic venue and hope to be back soon!”

His absence from Monte-Carlo creates more uncertainty in the top tier of the ATP field. Novak Djokovic, who has a history of skipping this Masters 1000 event, may also yet pull out, especially given his focus on Madrid and Rome later this spring. Jakub Mensik—who recently defeated Djokovic in a final—has already announced his withdrawal.

Fritz’s situation reflects a larger concern on the ATP Tour: the relentless schedule that often leaves little time for athletes to heal properly. As the clay season ramps up and with Roland Garros on the horizon, the American will be hoping rest now leads to better results when it matters most.
