Every coin has two sides, and so are the opinions on the new partnership of Iga Swiatek and Wim Fissette. The legendary coach joined the Polish star’s team after the latter announced a shocking split with Tomasz Wiktorowski. Despite a successful partnership, Swiatek felt the change was necessary as things weren’t going their way. However, it seems that hiring a top coach as per her wish isn’t set to solve all the problems as tennis expert, Marek Furjan, has already rang alarm bells for Swiatek’s partnership with Fissette.

The two will begin their first assignment at the WTA Finals where Swiatek is the defending champion. While she is certainly the favorite to win the title in Riyadh, Furjan has downplayed the sudden impact of Fissette on her performance. During an interview, he revealed why he feels that Fissette will take time to adjust to Swiatek’s team.

He said, “It is not possible that Fissette’s hand will be visible in Riyadh. However, these first matches will be very important to get to know each other better, to work out a communication system. Traces of the Belgian’s work will probably be visible only during the Australian Open in January, or maybe even later, in February or March.”

While Furjan expressed doubts over the new partnership, Serena Williams’ ex-coach, Rennae Stubbs, was extremely confident about Swiatek’s performances with Fissette by her side. She said, “I think it’ll go great because Wim will come in with new ideas and fresh ideas, he’s a little bit and not a little bit, he’s a lot more upbeat and a lot more positive than Tomasz… I think Iga will probably do great and will look like a legend.”

Despite Swiatek being a firm favorite at the WTA Finals, American tennis veteran, Coco Vendeweghe downplayed her chances. Instead, she picked Aryna Sabalenka over her.

Coco Vendeweghe raises doubts over Iga Swiatek’s WTA Finals campaign

It will be a race to finish at the top of the WTA rankings in the year-ending championships. While Sabalenka currently sits at the top, Swiatek can topple her if their results go in the opposite way, favoring Swiatek. However, Vendeweghe feels that Sabalenka will end the year ahead of Swiatek as she raised doubts about the recent addition of Fissette to Swiatek’s team.

The American tennis star said, “I’m going to go with field. I’m gonna really go out on a limb here. I think Iga’s been so dominant but such a question mark with the new coach and how is she feeling. I think Sabalenka has had such a high, but is she tired? I’m going glass half empty and going field.”
