Nick Kyrgios Reacts as Tennis Player Tests Positive for Meth
Nick Kyrgios has spoken out after tennis player Goncalo Oliveira was provisionally suspended following a positive test for methamphetamine.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed that Oliveira, 29, who was born in Portugal but represents Venezuela, failed an in-competition drug test at an ATP Challenger event in Mexico on November 25.
Oliveira’s Suspension and Failed Test
🔹 Oliveira’s sample was split into A and B samples, as per standard procedure.
🔹 The A sample tested positive for methamphetamine, a banned substance under tennis’ anti-doping regulations.
🔹 He did not have a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) for methamphetamine.
🔹 As a result, he was provisionally suspended from January 17 and did not appeal the ruling.
🔹 While suspended, Oliveira is prohibited from competing, coaching, or attending professional tournaments.
Nick Kyrgios’ Reaction: “Tennis World Gone Mad”
Kyrgios, known for his outspoken views on doping cases, quickly reacted to the news. He took to Instagram, writing:

His remark referenced the controversy surrounding Jannik Sinner’s doping case in 2024, where the World No. 1 tested positive for clostebol, an anabolic steroid.
Sinner was later cleared of any fault after arguing that he had been inadvertently contaminated via a massage spray used by his physiotherapist. However, despite avoiding a ban, Sinner was stripped of his ranking points and prize money from the Indian Wells Masters.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has since appealed the ruling, arguing that Sinner bears some responsibility. Kyrgios has been vocal in criticizing the decision, believing it sets a double standard in tennis’ anti-doping policies.
Oliveira Responds: “I Am Determined to Prove My Innocence”
Following his suspension, Oliveira issued a statement:
