Alex de Minaur delivered a sensational performance at the Monte Carlo Masters, dismantling Grigor Dimitrov 6-0, 6-0 in just 44 minutes to book his place in a clay-court Masters 1000 semi-final for the first time.

The 26-year-old Aussie became the first player in history to achieve a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) victory at the quarter-final, semi-final, or final stage of an ATP Masters 1000 tournament since the series began in 1990.

Speaking after the match, De Minaur reflected on the milestone:

“I did know that was my first double bagel. And funny enough, the only time I lost 0-6, 0-6 was to Tommy Paul in the US Open Juniors semi-finals. So yeah, it’s pretty crazy.”

He also expressed pride in becoming the first Australian man to reach the Monte Carlo semi-finals since John Alexander in 1979:

“It’s an amazing feeling. I’ve come a long way on clay. Early in my career, I didn’t understand the surface, but over the years I’ve learned how to use my game effectively here.”

Brutal Numbers From a One-Sided Match

  • Points Won: De Minaur won 48 of the 63 total points (76%).
  • Set Breakdown: Dimitrov earned just 10 points in the first set and five in the second.
  • Games Played: None of the 12 games reached deuce, and Dimitrov managed to get to 30 only six times.
  • Winner to Error Ratio:
    • Dimitrov: 1 winner, 23 unforced errors.
    • De Minaur: 7 winners, 8 unforced errors.

A Dominant Run Continues

This crushing win followed De Minaur’s 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Daniil Medvedev in the Round of 16 and a commanding 6-0, 6-3 performance in the final two sets against Tomas Machac in the second round.
