Andy Roddick recently pointed out a significant “question” that Taylor Fritz needs to address in 2025 if he wants to elevate his game to the next level. Roddick, a former world No. 1 and US Open champion, highlighted consistency in high-pressure situations and Grand Slam performances as the key area where Fritz must improve.
In an analysis of Fritz’s game, Roddick acknowledged that the American star has made impressive strides on the ATP Tour, winning multiple titles and establishing himself as a top-10 player. However, Roddick emphasized that the “big question” remains whether Fritz can consistently deliver deep runs in Grand Slam tournaments, where the stakes are highest, and the pressure is most intense.
“Taylor has shown that he can win at Masters 1000 events and against the top guys, but the question is whether he can do it week in and week out at the majors,” Roddick stated. “He’s got all the tools—big serve, powerful groundstrokes—but it’s about translating that success into the Grand Slams where you have to win seven matches against the best in the world.”
Roddick also pointed out that Fritz will need to work on maintaining his mental toughness in long matches, especially when facing the top players like Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. “He’s had some big wins, but there have been times where he’s fallen short in five-setters or crucial moments. That’s where we need to see growth in 2025,” Roddick added.
Fritz has enjoyed success in Masters 1000 events and on the ATP circuit, but his Grand Slam results have often been below expectations, with only one quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon in 2022. As he enters 2025, there’s a clear focus on how he handles the physical and mental demands of Grand Slam tournaments, and whether he can become a consistent contender for the sport’s biggest prizes.
For Fritz, answering this “question” will be crucial if he hopes to join the ranks of the elite players and compete for major titles in the coming year.
