The 2025 Premier League Darts continues this Thursday night in Brighton with the completion of Night Five. One of the standout quarter-final matchups will see Rob Cross take on table-topper Luke Humphries.

Cross acknowledges the challenge ahead, recognizing Humphries as one of the most dominant players in the sport over the past 18 months—alongside Luke Littler.

“Consistency-wise, it’s probably fair to say they’re the two best players in the world right now—and by a little way,” Cross told Sky Sports. “That’s not to say darts is unpredictable every week. We all have our limits, including the two Lukes. If you put pressure on them, you can still get results. They can’t win everything between them, but right now, they’re the most consistent two players on the planet.”

At 34, Cross—who famously won the world title in 2018—has watched in admiration as Littler made history by winning his first world championship at just 17 years old.

“I tip my hat to him. I was a little surprised at how well he handled his first world championship, but since then, he’s shown his class every day. At this point, I’m never really surprised by what he achieves,” Cross said of the young star, known as ‘The Nuke.’

Beyond Littler’s rise, Cross believes the teenager’s success is a boost for the entire sport.

“He’s a celebrity now, isn’t he? And the great things he’s doing are benefiting every darts player,” he continued. “The PDC will gain, the players will gain—if prize money increases and new sponsors come in, it’s brilliant for everyone. As ambassadors of the game, we need to see the bigger picture and embrace the growth.”

While Cross has enjoyed some success this season, including a title at the Dutch Darts Masters, he admits his form has been inconsistent.

“I’ve had some really great games, but also some mediocre ones where it just hasn’t quite clicked,” he reflected. “Going forward, I’m focused on becoming more consistent week in, week out. If I can do that, I’ll be absolutely fine. I’m still enjoying it—it’s just about making everything click on the night.”

With a challenging matchup against Humphries ahead, Cross will be looking to find his best form and make his mark on the Premier League campaign.
