US Open LIVE: Olympic champion racially abused as TV dispute puts coverage under threat
There will be new names on the men’s and women’s singles trophies at the US Open following a series of high-profile exits. The likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff have all been knocked out, paving the way for a couple of surprise winners at Flushing Meadows.
Gauff became the latest big name to bow out on Sunday night, losing at the hands of Emma Navarro in three sets. Questions continue to be asked about her coaching partnership with Brad Gilbert, with some urging her to pull the plug on their relationship and seek a new coach.
Djokovic and Alcaraz, meanwhile, were knocked out by Alexei Popyrin and Botic van de Zandschulp respectively. It leaves British hopeful Jack Draper with a great chance of making it to the latter stages of the competition as he prepares to face Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals.

Alex de Minaur expecting tough Jack Draper battle
Alex de Minaur is not underestimating Jack Draper ahead of their quarter-final clash tomorrow night.
The Aussie has beaten Draper in each of their three previous meetings but is expecting a tougher test at the fourth time of asking.
“I’m excited for the battle,” he said. “I think the biggest thing that we need to understand is that there is nothing sure in tennis.
“It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve played someone. It doesn’t mean much. So playing Jack, he’s coming off his best year by far.”He’s playing with a lot of confidence. He’s got some very big weapons, his serve, backhand, and forehand at times. It’s always tough facing someone like him, especially a lefty.”
TV dispute threatens coverage for millions
Millions of viewers in the United States could be left unable to watch the final weekend of the US Open.
This is because of an ongoing dispute between Disney and DirecTV.
An unresolved negotiation between the two companies resulted in the loss of access to ESPN over the weekend.
If a solution cannot be found, as many as 11 million viewers could be denied the chance to watch the final rounds at Flushing Meadows.

Daniil Medvedev promises ‘crazy stuff’
Daniil Medvedev has promised to celebrate with some ‘crazy stuff’ if he wins the US Open.
He is the only former champion left in the men’s singles draw with Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz already out.
Speaking after reaching the quarter-finals, Medvedev said: “I feel like I know what I want to do if I win my next Grand Slam, when I win it hopefully.
“A couple of times I was close and didn’t manage to do the celebration, so better to win matches and then the celebration. Press conferences come as they come.

Jessica Pegula snaps back at butler remarks
Jessica Pegula has admitted that she gets annoyed when people think she has a butler and a chauffeur.
The 30-year-old is the daughter of billionaire Terry Pegula, who owns the Buffalo Bills.
Asked what annoys her, Pegula replied: “It’s that people think I have a butler, that I get chauffeured around, I have a private limo, that I fly private everywhere.
“I’m definitely not like that. People can think what they want. I don’t know. I think it’s kind of funny.
“A butler? I read these comments, like: ‘She probably has this and that and that’. I’m, like: ‘No, not at all’. Maybe I should.
“I don’t know at this point. Is that what you want me to do, do all these crazy things?
“It’s a little annoying, but honestly I just think it’s kind of funny because I don’t really even know anyone that lives like that. It’s outrageous.”

Rafael Nadal offers retirement update
Rafael Nadal appeared on TV during the US Open to offer an update on his retirement plans.
The veteran Spaniard has been widely tipped to call it quits in the near future, but it seems he could keep playing into next year.
Asked if he would be playing at the French Open for one last time, Nadal said: “It’s an option. Right now the goals are over and I’m giving myself time.
“I’m enjoying training and other things in life. I understand that I’m retiring. It’s been a long time. I’ve had a lot of physical problems and the question is normal.
“There comes a time when I can’t live with [the idea of] retirement, because otherwise you don’t finish trying.
“I’ve given myself some time to enjoy tennis after a year and a half off the court and that’s what I’m doing, enjoying the day to day.”

Coco Gauff blasted in awkward interaction
Serena Williams’ former coach Rennae Stubbs awkwardly lambasted Coco Gauff’s ‘bad technique’ in the presence of her coach Brad Gilbert.
Speaking with Gilbert on ESPN, Stubbs said: “Where is Coco’s confidence? There’s no second serve, that’s the sign, and that’s a problem.
“Under pressure, bad technique breaks down and her technique is… it’s hard for me to say because Brad [Gilbert] is sitting here.
“Her technique, the elbow is too low, the grip is a little weird as well. So it’s hard for her to get that nice first serve and then the same or similar second serve.”
