Alexander Zverev had an impressive run at the 2025 Australian Open, finishing as runner-up after a tough final against World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. Zverev’s campaign saw him claim victories over Lucas Pouille, Jacob Fearnley, Igo Humbert, Tommy Paul, and Novak Djokovic (who retired due to injury in the semifinals). In the final, Zverev fell short against Sinner with a score of 3-6, 6-7(4), 3-6.

During his runner-up speech, Zverev expressed disappointment but remained determined to keep pushing for a Grand Slam title. His heartfelt message resonated with his girlfriend, Sophia Thomalla, who was visibly emotional as she watched from the stands. Zverev said:

“I really did think I have a chance but here I am, you know but I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to lift the trophy but I’ll keep coming back. I’ll keep trying and I’ll see you guys all next year, thank you.”

Zverev also thanked his team for their unwavering support throughout his career, particularly after his ankle injury in 2022, which temporarily derailed his progress. He acknowledged their hard work and dedication, saying:

“I want to thank my team. I mean we’re trying to do all the right work, I’m just not good enough, it’s as simple as that. But I really appreciate what everybody has done over the last few years, back from my ankle injury to world number two to playing grand slam finals again. So I really appreciate everything that they have done and I wouldn’t be here without them.”

Zverev extended his congratulations to Jannik Sinner, praising the Italian’s skill and dominance:

“Congratulations to Janik. You more than deserve it. You’re the best player in the world by far. I was hoping that I could be more competitive today, but you’re just too good. It’s as simple as that. So, congratulations to you. You really deserve it. Congrats to your team as well. You’ve done all the right things. You’ve done all the work, there’s nobody that deserves this trophy more.”

This marks Zverev’s third Grand Slam final appearance, following the 2020 US Open and the 2024 French Open, further solidifying his place among the top contenders in men’s tennis.
