Andy Murray hasn’t taken long to find his next role after retirement after agreeing to coach Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic will be coached by Murray in the off-season and at the 2025 Australian Open, with the pair having been long-term rivals on the court.
Murray turned to golf after retiring, but he will now make a return to tennis in a bid to help Djokovic to Grand Slam success.
The Serbian leads the way for men’s Grand Slam titles with 24, with the Scot having won three during his 19-year career.
Djokovic and Murray went head-to-head in seven Grand Slam finals, with the former winning five and the latter winning two.
What Andy Murray used to say to his team about Novak Djokovic
But now that rivalry must turn to trust and friendship ahead of the 2025 Australian Open, an event Djokovic has excelled in.
Murray’s coach of six years Jamie Delgado, who currently coaches Grigor Dimitrov, has now shared the relationship between the two tennis icons.
“They always got on well, but I don’t think it would have been as close as it maybe was when they were younger – or it would be now,” Delgado told BBC Sport.
“There was just so much on the line. But they had immense respect for each other. Andy always spoke so highly of his game and how difficult it was to play against him. The respect was sky high.”
Will Andy Murray help Novak Djokovic extend his Grand Slam dominance?
Djokovic has a fantastic chance to continue his stunning legacy at the Australian Open, especially now that Rafael Nadal has retired.
The Serbian’s 24 Grand Slam titles are two ahead of Nadal in second and four ahead of Roger Federer, who retired in 2022.
Djokovic is also well ahead in terms of his 10 titles in Melbourne, with Federer his nearest rival in the Open Era with six.

But 2024 has been frustrating for the 37-year-old, whose only title came via a gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
Injuries and poor form are undoubtedly to blame, with Murray now tasked with correcting the latter issue in the off-season.
