‘What’s gone on there?’ – Darts star’s leg bizarrely ‘appears out of NOWHERE’ leaving commentator baffled
Dirk van Duijvenbode delivered one of the strangest reactions ever seen on a darts stage after missing a crucial finish.
The 33-year-old Dutchman was edging a tight contest 4-3 against Mike De Decker at the German Darts Grand Prix when he failed to take out 90.
After missing double 18, Van Duijvenbode suddenly swung his leg up into the air, grabbed it, and held it in an unusual pose that left everyone stunned.
He then threw his final dart while balancing on just one leg at the oche — only to miss inside. For a moment, he remained frozen in position, arm stretched forward, right leg planted, and left leg lifted behind him.
The bizarre moment didn’t end there.
Turning to the side, he grabbed his raised leg with both hands, pulling it up by the hamstring in a display of surprising flexibility before letting go and staring at his hands in disbelief. He even slapped the back of his hand before walking off to collect his darts — leaving commentators completely baffled.
One compared the moment to a cartoon, joking it was like something out of Inspector Gadget, while another quipped he looked more like a ballet dancer than a darts player.
Van Duijvenbode later leaned into the humour, sharing an AI-edited image of himself dressed as a ballerina — complete with a pink tutu and pointed shoes — which he even set as his profile picture.
Despite the odd moment, the world No.28 showed real grit to recover. He eventually edged a dramatic 6-5 victory, even after slipping 5-4 behind and coming within a leg of elimination.
He sealed the win with a break of throw in the decider to advance on Day Two in Munich, having earlier beaten Stephen Burton 6-2 in the opening round of the fourth European Tour event of the season.
