Fritz, who is the No. 12 seed at Roland Garros, battled back to defeat Coria 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 to set up a clash with Lajovic, who came through a five-setter against Russian Roman Safiullin. Lajovic, ranked 61 in the world, won 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 yesterday.

Fritz is currently on a run of 11 wins in his last 15 games on clay. That sequence of results saw the American make the semi-finals of the Madrid Open and the quarter-finals of the Italian Open – both firsts for the 26-year-old.

What are Fritz and Lajovic’s best French Open finishes?

At the French Open, Fritz has never gone beyond the third round, having been eliminated at that stage by Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego in 2020 and by Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo last year.

Lajovic’s best performance at Roland Garros is a fourth-round finish. Back in 2014, the 33-year-old saw off Argentina’s Federico Delbonis, Estonia’s Jürgen Zopp and America’s Jack Sock in Paris, before going down in straight sets to Spain’s Rafa Nadal, who was on his way to the ninth of a record 14 French Open titles.

Fritz vs Lajovic: head to head

Fritz and Coria have crossed paths twice previously on the ATP Tour. Lajovic beat Fritz in two sets at the 2018 Lyon Open, winning the pair’s quarter-final clash 7-5, 6-1. At the 2023 Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, it was the Californian who progressed from their third-round clash when the Serb retired hurt at 5-0 down in the first set.
