Australia’s top male tennis player, Alex de Minaur, embarks on his quest for a maiden Grand Slam title at the 2025 Australian Open.
The 25-year-old, currently ranked eighth in the world, has captured nine singles titles on tour but is yet to progress beyond the quarterfinals at a major tournament. At his home Slam, his best result so far has been a fourth-round finish, where he’s been eliminated at that stage in each of the past three years.

When is Alex de Minaur’s first-round match?
De Minaur will face Dutch world No. 82 Botic van de Zandschulp in the first round. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, January 14, at 7 p.m. AEDT on Rod Laver Arena.
De Minaur was last seen in action during the United Cup on New Year’s Day, where he defeated Great Britain’s Billy Harris in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. For van de Zandschulp, this will be his first match since a three-set loss to Nishesh Basavareddy in the qualifying rounds of the ASB Classic in Auckland earlier this month. Notably, the Dutchman claimed a major scalp at last year’s US Open by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in the second round.
