WTA Ranking Update (20/08/24): Aryna Sabalenka regains World No.2 as Mirra Andreeva reaches new career high
Aryna Sabalenka is back into World No.2 in the latest WTA Ranking Update for 20 August after the Cincinnati Open concluded in earnest on Monday. The Belarusian ace defeated Jessica Pegula in the final 6-3, 7-5.
Sabalenka pushed Coco Gauff down to World No.3 who failed to defend her title in Cincinnati and she lost in the second round to Yulia Putintseva in a crisis moment. Iga Swiatek has a healthy lead still at the top of 10,695 points compared to 8,016 for Sabalenka.
Whilst Jessica Pegula despite reaching another final remains at World No.6 with Rybakina and Paolini still unmoved despite the American’s prowess in recent weeks reaching the final on Monday and winning the Canadian Open last week.
Barbora Krejcikova and Maria Sakkari swapped places in the top 10. While Jelena Ostapenko like clockwork has reentered the top 10 again. But it was a Russian trio who made the biggest strides.
Anna Kalinskaya is up to a new career high of World No.15, Diana Shnaider who continues to grow jumped up two places to World No.18 after only making her top 20 debut last week. While Mirra Andreeva is on the verge of doing just that, she sits in World No.21 with a top 20 debut beckoning.
Paula Badosa is also back in the top 30. She jumped 10 spots to World No.27 and will now be seeded at the US Open. A remarkable turnaround for the Spaniard.
