Darts legend Colin Lloyd has issued a warning to teen sensation Luke Littler, saying the 18-year-old’s provocative behavior on stage could eventually backfire.
During his 6-4 quarter-final victory over Nathan Aspinall at the Premier League Darts in Leeds on Thursday, Littler taunted the booing crowd with a mock crying gesture, having already made a yawn during his walk-on.
He also flashed a 4-1 sign to TV cameras—a nod to Manchester United’s win over Athletic Bilbao, adding fuel to the fire with Leeds fans.
Lloyd, a former World No.1, told talkSPORT:
“The one that really got me was when the crowd booed him going for a double—and after hitting it, he mocked them.
People say darts lacks characters, and he’s becoming one. He clearly does things his own way and doesn’t care. That’s great—until the fans really turn on you.”
Lloyd added that while Littler is riding a wave of success, including five major titles and strong Premier League form, ongoing antics could attract lasting hostility from fans.
“If he keeps winding up the crowd, and they come at him hard, he can’t complain,” Lloyd said. “But right now, he’s thriving—and it looks like it’ll continue.”
Despite his earlier win, Littler narrowly lost 6-5 to Luke Humphries in the night’s final. Still, he remains top of the Premier League table with 38 points, seven ahead of Humphries with two rounds to go. The two will meet again in Aberdeen this Thursday.
