Zverev mocks Djokovic and Alcaraz about their power over Australian Oper board
Alexander Zverev has advanced to the third round of the 2025 Australian Open after delivering two dominant performances. Known for sometimes struggling in the early rounds of Grand Slams, Zverev has managed to stay in top physical form this time around. He comfortably defeated Lucas Pouille and Pedro Martinez, setting up a third-round clash against Jacob Fearnley.
In his post-match interview, Zverev humorously mentioned playing two consecutive matches at night, taking a lighthearted jab at fellow stars Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.
“This is the second match I’ve played at night. I love playing at night here and enjoy every chance I get to do it. I hope it’s not the last, so we’ll see what happens.
As for making a request to the tournament board, the issue is that Novak has more power than me—Carlos too! Their requests get accepted first. But if there’s another night slot available, I’d be happy to take it,” Zverev joked.
At the press conference, however, Zverev turned his attention to his upcoming opponent, offering his analysis of Jacob Fearnley:
“I saw him play against Nick Kyrgios the other day and also against Novak at Wimbledon. I know he comes from college and has quickly risen up the rankings, which shows he’s playing some great tennis.
I’m excited to face him. I have a lot of respect for him because he took the toughest route to becoming a professional tennis player, and despite that, he passed all the hurdles. He deserves to be in the third round of a Slam. Personally, I think I’ve played at a great level in both matches, and for now, I have nothing to complain about,” Zverev said confidently.
