Taylor Fritz says what he feels ‘really good’ doing against Alexander Zverev after beating him again
Taylor Fritz beat Alexander Zverev 6-3, 3-6, 7-6, to advance to the final of the ATP Finals for the first time in his career.
Fritz has enjoyed a fantastic ATP Finals campaign, which may yet get better as he prepares for the final on Sunday.
The American got off to a strong start, as Fritz beat Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.
Fritz then fell to defeat against home favorite Jannik Sinner, in a competitive two-set loss, a man who he could well have the opportunity to play again in Sunday’s final.
The 27-year-old would love to get the better of the Italian in Turin after Sinner beat Fritz at his home US Open in the final earlier this year. His final group stage game was against Alex de Minaur, who Fritz beat in a three-set battle to qualify for the last four.
He then won his semi-final matchup against Zverev, where he felt ‘really good’ about one thing in particular.
Taylor Fritz felt ‘really good’ in rallies against Alexander Zverev at the ATP Finals
Speaking after his ATP Finals semi-final victory over Zverev, Fritz revealed what he felt really good about during the match.
“I feel like the last couple of times I have played him I have felt really good in that pattern,” he said.
“Obviously his backhand is incredible but I love my backhand cross too.
“So I don’t want to change my game around too much based off the first time playing, so I just kind of had that belief that I can hang in that rally.”
The American number one went on to say that he was aware of the threat from Zverev’s forehand.
“When I looked to change he would hurt me with the forehand cross, so I wanted to be aggressive when I got the chance, but really just stay solid in the rally,” said Fritz.
