In news that nobody expected to read on Saturday, it was announced that Andy Murray will be coaching Novak Djokovic during the Australian Open which takes place in January.

Djokovic has been on the lookout for a new coach for a few months and has turned to the recently retired Murray with the Scotsman taking his first step into coaching.

It’s quite the first gig for the three-time Grand Slam winner and he will be working with Djokovic as he looks to add another Australian Open title to the 10 he already has.

Murray is an intriguing coach for Djokovic. To be brutally honest, it’s hard to imagine that the Serbian legend needs much coaching at all but he will be looking to win a Grand Slam next year having failed to do so in 2024.

It’s quite a strange one to hear that Murray is going to be coaching Djokovic. Being responsible for arguably the greatest of all time in tennis is a position that Murray will want to do well in.

Cleary, it seems as though his time at home has left him feeling bored without tennis and now he will head to Australia to get to work with Djokovic next year.

This will remind tennis lovers of some of the great battles between the two players when both of the starts were in their prime.

Interestingly Murray has a special record when it comes to playing Djokovic that no other player has managed to do.

The Great Britain star is the only player in history to actually beat Djokovic in the final of the US Open, Wimbledon and at the ATP Finals.

Murray was often the man for the big occasion and that record is now quite intriguing with the pair set to work together.

There won’t be a deal of pressure on Murray in working with a player who is one of the all-time greatest players and this could be a good first job for him in coaching.

Murray showed a meticulous approach to his opponents when he was on the tour and he will know all of the strengths and weaknesses of his opponents.

Now, that level of expertise can be used as a bit of a secret weapon in the corner of Djokovic and he will hope to end his wait for another Grand Slam title in 2025.

It’s definitely one of the biggest stories of the year and for tennis fans, it will be fascinating to see how the pair perform together.
