Since signing for Manchester City in 2021, Jack Grealish has had the privilege of playing with some of the best players to have graced the Premier League in years.
Grealish would instantly have noticed the difference in quality between Aston Villa and City upon first making the move.
Speaking to TNT Sports in November last year, the England international lauded the class and togetherness of this Manchester City squad.
“We have a brilliant team on the pitch but off the pitch, we have a team that’s so close and we love playing with each other, love being with each other and that shows.”
Grealish loves life at Manchester City to the extent that last month, the chances of him leaving the club were ruled out despite what has been a difficult season for the revered winger so far.
Grealish names Gundogan as Man City’s most underrated player
Having trained and played with a whole host of serial winners at the Etihad Stadium, the 29-year-old would have learned several key footballing lessons.
Especially considering the number of experienced players on City’s books such as Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Kyle Walker and John Stones to name a few.
When quizzed about his most underrated teammate at Manchester City, Grealish named Gundogan.
Speaking to Fubo, the three-time Premier League winner revealed: “I would say Ilkay Gundogan. I think he is rated but yeah, he’s just such a special player, the way he plays football so I would say him.”
Martin Keown hailed Gundogan as an “underrated” player as well and named him as the best signing of the summer transfer window.
Rodri named Gundogan as underrated as well while discussing several players across world football during an interview.
Even John Obi Mikel highlighted Gundogan as a top player and described the decision to re-sign him this summer as “absolutely brilliant.”
Bernardo Silva heaped praise on Gundogan as well by stating that he is smarter than De Bruyne on the pitch.
Jack Grealish said Ilkay Gundogan is one of his best-ever teammates
Grealish complimented Gundogan as one of the best players he has ever played with after he scored in Germany’s 2-0 victory against Hungary during the European Championship.
“Can’t explain how good this guy is man. Honestly, one of the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing with.”
Grealish paid tribute to Gundogan after he had announced his decision to depart Manchester City in the summer of 2023 as well.
“An unbelievable player and more importantly, an even greater person. Thank you for all the great memories, Gundo! You’ve gave me so many brother. All the best to you and your family on your new chapter, legend.”
Grealish seems to be one of Gundogan’s biggest admirers.
The former Aston Villa technician will be hoping that the German rediscovers his best form as quickly as possible and plays an instrumental role in helping Manchester City redeem themselves.
