Speaking in a candid interview, Swiatek shared, “I’ve spent close to $250,000 gathering the evidence, hiring experts, and going through the legal process to prove my innocence. It’s not just about money—it’s about rebuilding trust and my reputation.”
The former World No. 1 also addressed the “violent” reactions from the tennis community and fans, many of whom were quick to judge. “It felt like I was guilty until proven innocent. The backlash was overwhelming, and it pushed me into a dark place mentally. I’ve had to work hard to regain my confidence and peace of mind.”
Swiatek ultimately received a one-month suspension and had her Cincinnati Open prize money revoked. The International Tennis Integrity Agency accepted her explanation of unintentional contamination, but the ordeal has left a lasting impression on the 23-year-old.
“I hope this serves as a reminder that athletes are humans too. Mistakes can happen, and not every case is as black and white as it seems. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone,” she concluded.
