Andrey Rublev has opened up about his journey to achieving mental balance, revealing that at times, he struggled with intense emotional swings that made him feel “a bit bipolar.” In a candid interview, the Russian tennis star explained how he had to learn to cope with the mental challenges that come with the high-pressure world of professional tennis.
Rublev, known for his fiery on-court demeanor, shared that his emotional fluctuations used to significantly affect his game. “I started to feel a bit bipolar at times, with extreme highs and lows,” he admitted. “One moment, I would be ecstatic and confident, and the next, I would feel completely drained or frustrated with my performance.”
The 26-year-old revealed that over the years, he worked hard to understand his emotions and the mental aspects of the sport. “It was a tough journey,” he said. “I realized that tennis is not just about technique or fitness. It’s about controlling your mind, staying grounded, and managing the pressure, especially when things aren’t going your way.”
Rublev’s path to mental stability has involved seeking professional help, learning coping strategies, and finding a balance between his intense passion for the sport and his need for mental clarity. “I had to learn how to keep my emotions in check and not let them affect my game,” he explained. “Now, I’m more aware of my mental state and how to maintain balance, which has made a big difference in my performances.”
The Russian has shown significant improvement in recent years, with more consistent performances on tour, and he credits his mental growth for his success. Rublev now feels better equipped to handle the pressures of the ATP Tour, focusing on staying calm and collected in the face of adversity.
As he continues his career, Rublev is focused on building a strong mental foundation to complement his physical skills. “It’s still a work in progress,” he said, “but I’m definitely more in control of my mind now, and that’s helping me play better tennis.”
