Nick Kyrgios makes position on Jannik Sinner crystal clear as video resurfaces of him praising World No.1
Nick Kyrgios has made it clear that he is no fan of Jannik Sinner, particularly after the World No. 1 tested positive for the banned substance Clostebol. The Australian has repeatedly claimed that Sinner was unfairly protected, using the controversy as fuel for his ongoing criticism. However, a resurfaced clip from the past shows a very different side of Kyrgios—one where he actually praised the Italian star.
Sinner’s positive test came during his Indian Wells campaign last year, but he successfully overturned his provisional suspension by proving the banned substance entered his system unintentionally. After a thorough investigation, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) cleared him of any wrongdoing, allowing him to continue competing. Despite this, Kyrgios has remained vocal, seizing multiple opportunities to take shots at Sinner.
Kyrgios Reacts to Resurfaced Video
Once an admirer of Sinner, Kyrgios now stands among his harshest critics. When a fan resurfaced an old clip of Kyrgios praising the Italian, the Aussie was quick to dismiss it, responding:
“This was before he was found with roids in his system.”
Sinner’s Legal Battle Continues
Although Sinner was cleared by the ITIA, his case is not yet over. He is set to appear before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on April 16-17, where he could face a ban of up to two years.
Kyrgios has continued to take jabs at Sinner, mocking his decision to launch a YouTube channel and frequently stirring controversy around him. While other players, including Iga Swiatek, have faced criticism over various issues, Kyrgios appears to have singled out Sinner more than most. He also pointed out that fellow Australian Max Purcell, who admitted to a doping violation, did not receive the same level of scrutiny—implying that owning up to mistakes is what earns respect in his eyes.
“It’s Not Personal”—Or Is It?
Kyrgios has insisted that his criticism of Sinner is not personal, claiming that he does not hold a vendetta against the Italian. However, many believe otherwise, as his repeated jabs suggest a deeper grudge. Whether his feud with Sinner will escalate further remains to be seen, especially with the CAS hearing looming in April.
