Serena Williams ‘would have been fined at Wimbledon’ for behaviour at Super Bowl
Serena Williams Shocks Fans with Super Bowl Halftime Cameo
Serena Williams made a surprise appearance at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, but not in the way tennis fans are used to seeing her. The 43-year-old legend took the stage during the halftime show at the Caesars Superdome, as the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22.
While American President Donald Trump was seen leaving the stadium early, Williams stunned the crowd by joining rapper and headline act Kendrick Lamar on stage in an unexpected cameo.
Serena’s Crip Walk Goes Viral
During Lamar’s performance of “Not Like Us” in front of 65,719 fans, the 23-time Grand Slam champion made her entrance, effortlessly Crip Walking while locking eyes with the cameras.
It was a stark contrast to the tradition and etiquette upheld by Wimbledon and the All England Club, and Williams was quick to acknowledge the difference.
“Oh, I did not Crip Walk like that at Wimbledon,” she said in a video she posted later, laughing. “I would have been fiiinnneeed!”
Clearly relishing the moment, she pouted into the camera, showing just how much she enjoyed the experience.
Behind-the-Scenes of Serena’s Super Bowl Cameo
Williams took to Instagram and X to share glimpses of her Super Bowl halftime experience, posting footage of her backstage rehearsals before stepping onto the main stage.
“Let’s go Super Bowl halftime??! I died a little!” she captioned one video, showing herself practicing her Crip Walk routine before the big moment.
Another clip featured Williams in the dressing room, getting her makeup done before heading out.
“A little behind the scenes,” she wrote.
Novak Djokovic Calls for More Entertainment in Tennis
Williams’ halftime cameo comes amid calls from Novak Djokovic to make tennis more entertaining for fans. The Serbian legend recently suggested that tennis should incorporate show-stopping acts like those seen at the NFL’s Super Bowl or NBA games, particularly during set breaks.
A Star-Studded Super Bowl Show
Williams wasn’t the only celebrity lighting up the stage. Actor Samuel L. Jackson, dressed as Uncle Sam, also made a special cameo, along with R&B star SZA.
While the Super Bowl is known for its electrifying entertainment, Serena Williams proved once again that she can own any stage—whether it’s a tennis court or a halftime show.
