Jack Grealish Opens Up on “Most Difficult Year of My Life” After FA Cup Victory

Jack Grealish reflected on the challenges of 2024 after Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Leyton Orient in the FA Cup on Saturday. Despite being part of City’s Premier League-winning squad, the winger endured a frustrating season, making just 10 league starts under Pep Guardiola.

A Tough Year for Grealish: Limited Minutes and Euro 2024 Omission

Grealish, 29, struggled for consistent game time at City and was left out of England’s squad for Euro 2024, where the Three Lions finished runners-up to Spain. His lack of minutes has continued into the current season, with Saturday’s match marking only his fourth full 90-minute appearance since October.

“Last year was weird because my little daughter was born, but apart from that, it was probably the most difficult year of my life, for many reasons—on and off the pitch,” Grealish admitted after the FA Cup win.

Determined to Regain Form and Rhythm

Despite the setbacks, Grealish is optimistic about turning things around in 2025.

“It’s a new year, a fresh start, and hopefully I can kick on from here,” he said.
“I want to start playing more often and have that rhythm—the way I was a couple of years ago when I was playing a lot of games in a row.”

Grealish acknowledged the difficulty of coming in and out of matches, emphasizing his desire to contribute more with goals and assists.

“I do find it difficult at times not really playing. Hopefully, I can keep training well and get more games.”

Praise for Leyton Orient and Looking Ahead to Real Madrid

Grealish also commended Leyton Orient’s performance, noting their spirited display against the Premier League giants.

“A lot of credit has to go to Orient—they were outstanding. The fans were brilliant, their keeper was brilliant, and I love playing at grounds like this.”

City now shift their focus to a massive Champions League showdown against Real Madrid on Tuesday, and Grealish is eager to play a role.

“That’s the beauty of this world we live in—we go from Leyton Orient on Saturday to Real Madrid on Tuesday.”
