Emma Raducanu told of revenge motivation behind latest setback after losing fourth consecutive match
Ekaterina Alexandrova Gets Revenge on Emma Raducanu at Qatar Open
Ekaterina Alexandrova admitted she had revenge on her mind before securing a straight-sets victory over Emma Raducanu at the Qatar Open on Sunday.
Raducanu, aiming to build momentum in 2025 by playing more tournaments, had a strong start to the season with a third-round run at the Australian Open. However, she has struggled since, facing early exits in three consecutive tournaments.
Alexandrova’s Revenge After Australian Open Defeat
The Qatar Open rematch came just weeks after Raducanu had beaten Alexandrova at the Australian Open in a closely fought battle, where both sets were decided in tiebreaks.
Alexandrova admitted she was eager for payback after that narrow defeat.
“I was looking forward to this match because the last match we played, it was very close and very difficult, and I was really upset after that match,” Alexandrova said post-match.
“When I saw the draw, I thought that maybe it’s gonna be my chance. And I’m glad that I could win, even [though] it was a pretty difficult match to play. She played well.”
Raducanu’s Struggles and Uncertain Schedule
The British No. 2 is currently on the longest losing streak of her career, and without a full-time coach after Nick Cavaday’s departure post-Australian Open, she faces uncertainty regarding her next tournament.
Raducanu will need another wildcard to compete in Dubai next week, with upcoming WTA events in Mexico and Austin before the Sunshine Swing in Indian Wells and Miami.
Despite her recent poor form, Raducanu doesn’t have many ranking points to defend from last year, meaning her world ranking remains relatively stable. However, she will need to match or improve her performances from Indian Wells and Stuttgart to avoid a drop in the rankings.
