Simona Halep Receives Major Legal Update Following Retirement
Just days after officially announcing her retirement at the Transylvania Open 2025, Simona Halep (33) has received a significant legal update regarding her ongoing lawsuit against Canadian companies Quantum Nutrition, RJ Packing Inc., and General Ingredient.
Lawsuit Trial Date Set for April 9, 2025
Halep, who is seeking $10 million in damages, has accused the companies of serious negligence related to the contaminated Keto MCT supplement, which led to her doping suspension in 2022. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. in February 2024, has now been scheduled to begin on April 9, 2025, per reports from gsp.ro.
In her legal claim, Halep cites “past and future humiliation,” “pain, suffering, and loss of enjoyment of life.”
From Doping Suspension to Retirement
Halep tested positive for Roxadustat at the 2022 US Open, resulting in a four-year suspension initially imposed by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). After a lengthy appeal process, her ban was reduced to nine months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in early 2024.
Returning to the WTA Tour in March 2024, Halep struggled to regain her competitive edge, winning just one of six matches before deciding to retire due to ongoing medical concerns.
A Legacy of Greatness
Despite a challenging end to her career, Simona Halep leaves behind an incredible tennis legacy. The Romanian star won two Grand Slam titles—Roland Garros (2018) and Wimbledon (2019)—while also reaching three other Grand Slam finals (Roland Garros 2014 & 2017, Australian Open 2018). She held the WTA No. 1 ranking for 64 weeks, cementing her place as one of the greatest players of her era.
With her playing days behind her, Halep now turns her focus to her legal battle, seeking justice for what she believes was an unjust suspension that overshadowed the final years of her illustrious career.
