Alexander Zverev’s Father Reveals Key to His Son’s Consistency

Alexander Zverev has been one of the most consistent performers in men’s tennis over the past few years, frequently reaching the latter stages of Grand Slams. Though the 27-year-old is still chasing his first Major title, his deep runs at three of the last five Slams prove his status among the sport’s elite.

His father, Alexander Zverev Sr., has now shed light on the reason behind his son’s consistency, pointing to his relentless work ethic and passion for training.

Zverev’s Grand Slam Consistency

While Zverev has yet to lift a Grand Slam trophy, he has been agonizingly close on multiple occasions:

  • 2020 US Open Final – Lost to Dominic Thiem in a dramatic five-setter (2–6, 4–6, 6–4, 6–3, 7–6).
  • 2024 French Open Final – Lost to Carlos Alcaraz in another grueling five-set battle (6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2).
  • 2025 Australian Open Semifinal – Defeated in straight sets by Jannik Sinner (6–3, 7–6, 6–3).

Despite these setbacks, his ability to reach the final stages of Slams repeatedly has made him one of the most reliable performers on the ATP Tour.

The Key to Zverev’s Success: Relentless Work Ethic

Speaking to The Tennis Gazette, Zverev Sr. revealed that his son’s passion for tennis and unmatched dedication to training are what set him apart:

“He always wanted to play very well [until] the last point, the last shot, and sometimes it lasted for 20-30 minutes. When he was very young, it was very difficult for him to leave the court. He would start crying, saying, ‘I still want to train.’”

Even now, as one of the best players in the world, Zverev refuses to stop training after matches:

“Sometimes he finishes a night session at half past eleven or midnight and asks the tournament organizers to let him play for another 30-40 minutes.”

“100 Percent Effort Every Time”

Zverev’s dedication to perfection extends beyond matches. His father emphasized that whether he’s on the court or in the gym, he never trains at anything less than full intensity:

“If he goes out on the court, it doesn’t matter whether it’s a match or training, he always does everything 100 percent.”

For Zverev, the key to success isn’t just talent—it’s his unwavering commitment to hard work.

Can Zverev Finally Win His First Grand Slam?

With Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic standing in his way, Zverev still faces a tough road to his first Grand Slam title. However, his consistent deep runs, tireless work ethic, and growing experience suggest that his long-awaited Major breakthrough might not be far away.

If he keeps working the way his father describes, it’s only a matter of time before he gets his hands on a Grand Slam trophy.
