Coco Gauff received a delightful Valentine’s Day proposal from a fellow WTA player in a heartwarming exchange shared by the WTA Tour. The American happily accepted her colleague’s request to be her “Galentine,” but the moment took a hilarious turn when her suitor swiftly fled after Gauff posed a curious question.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Gauff was caught off guard by none other than the “Minister of Happiness,” Ons Jabeur, who playfully popped the question.

“Will you be my Valentine?” Jabeur asked.
“Yes!” Gauff responded excitedly.

As the behind-the-scenes producer pointed out that Gauff had opted for Galentine’s Day over Valentine’s, the World No. 3 hugged Jabeur as a token of appreciation.

“I did choose Galentine’s Day. I don’t have anything for you, so the hug is for you,” Gauff said before jokingly adding, “I saw somebody coming from the bushes, and I was like, who the heck is jumping over?”

However, Gauff’s next question sent Jabeur running.

“Thank you for the rose. But how many people have you done this for? How many Valentines do you have?”
“See you!” Jabeur said, making a quick exit.

Laughing, Gauff quipped, “Oh, okay. Maybe it’s not as special anymore.”

Coco Gauff and Ons Jabeur’s Contrasting Runs at the 2025 Qatar Open

Both players competed in the first WTA 1000 event of the season, the Qatar Open, but their campaigns took very different paths.

As the third seed, Gauff received a bye into the second round, where she faced Marta Kostyuk. The Ukrainian, who had confidently dispatched Zeynep Sonmez 6-3, 6-3 in her opener, carried that momentum into the next match, stunning Gauff 6-2, 7-5. Interestingly, this marked the second consecutive year Gauff suffered an early exit in Doha, having lost in the second round of the 2024 tournament to Katerina Siniakova.

Meanwhile, Jabeur—who had been struggling with form in recent months—enjoyed a much stronger showing. The Tunisian reached the quarterfinals with straight-set victories over McCartney Kessler, seventh seed Zheng Qinwen, and Sofia Kenin. However, her run came to an end at the hands of an in-form Jelena Ostapenko, who dominated with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
