Andy Roddick Criticizes Stefano Vukov’s Role in Rybakina-Ivanisevic Split
Andy Roddick believes Stefano Vukov played a significant role in the abrupt end of Elena Rybakina’s partnership with Goran Ivanisevic.
After parting ways with Vukov in August following a five-year collaboration, the Kazakh star brought in Novak Djokovic’s former long-time coach in November. However, just days into the 2025 season, Rybakina shocked the tennis world by reinstating Vukov as her coach.
Reports quickly emerged suggesting Ivanisevic was blindsided by the decision, with strong indications that he would leave after the Australian Open. That speculation became reality soon after the tournament.
Since then, revelations surfaced about an investigation into Vukov’s conduct, leading to his ban from coaching on the WTA Tour. This week, the WTA confirmed that the investigation had concluded and upheld his one-year suspension. According to The Athletic, it was determined that Vukov had verbally abused Rybakina—fueling speculation that the two are in a romantic relationship.
Roddick Slams Vukov: “Selfish to Put Yourself in the Middle”
Speaking on his Served with Andy Roddick podcast, the 2003 US Open champion didn’t hold back in criticizing Vukov’s actions.
“A circus show of a dude who is inserting himself into the conversation,” Roddick remarked.
“If you’re with someone and you care about that person—and they have one of the best coaches in the world willing to work with them—it’s kinda selfish to put yourself in the middle of it.
“Bringing this situation into the public eye, especially before there was any ruling or any indication of how she would perform, shows a lack of self-control,” he added.
Rybakina Moves Forward with New Coach
Following the split with Ivanisevic, Rybakina has since hired former Italian player Davide Sanguinetti as her coach. Interestingly, after the announcement, Sanguinetti confirmed he had no issue working alongside Vukov despite the controversy surrounding him.
