Emma Raducanu explains next goal after ending career-worst losing streak in Dubai
Emma Raducanu Sets Sights on Next Goal After Snapping Losing Streak in Dubai
Emma Raducanu expressed her pride after overcoming Maria Sakkari in Dubai, ending a four-match losing streak and reigniting her confidence for the season ahead.
The British No. 2 entered 2025 with fresh optimism, determined to rediscover her best form and compete at the highest level. A career-best run to the third round of the Australian Open provided an encouraging start, but her campaign was disrupted when coach Nick Cavaday stepped down due to health concerns.
Struggling to find a permanent coaching replacement, Raducanu suffered three consecutive first-round losses. However, she turned things around in Dubai, delivering an impressive straight-sets victory over former world No. 3 Maria Sakkari.
A New Approach Paying Off
Raducanu has taken a different path this year, opting to play as many tournaments as possible rather than focusing solely on training. This approach was questioned during her slump, but she remained committed to the plan.
“I’m just really proud I’ve stuck it out and come through that match against a really tough opponent,” Raducanu said. “I had to play really good tennis to beat her.”
She also highlighted the improvements in her athleticism, crediting her hard work off the court.
“I’m looking forward to the tennis side also coming together,” she added. “I feel like I’m building a good big picture.”
Next Challenge: Karolina Muchova
Raducanu now faces a tough second-round test against No. 14 seed Karolina Muchova, a French Open finalist in 2023 who is returning to form following wrist surgery.
A victory could set up a potential showdown with world No. 3 Coco Gauff in the third round. It would also push Raducanu further up the WTA rankings, edging her closer to a return to the top 50.
