“On Monday, February 17, Emma Raducanu was approached in a public area by a man who exhibited fixated behaviour. He will be banned from all WTA events pending a threat assessment.”

The statement continued:

“Player safety is our top priority, and tournaments are advised on security best practices for international sporting events. The WTA is actively working with Emma and her team to ensure her well-being and provide any necessary support. We remain committed to collaborating with tournaments and their security teams worldwide to maintain a safe environment for all players.”

Raducanu’s Hard-Fought Battle Ends in Defeat

Despite the unsettling incident, Raducanu fought back from a slow start to push the opening set to a tie-break. However, she ultimately fell 7-6 (6), 6-4, missing out on a place in the last 16 against McCartney Kessler, who earlier eliminated Coco Gauff from the tournament.

After falling behind 2-0, Raducanu was seen tearing up at the umpire’s chair, where the official used a walkie-talkie to communicate with tournament organizers. She took a moment to compose herself, wiping her eyes with a towel, before returning to the court.

Raducanu rallied impressively, breaking Muchova twice to push the set to a tie-break. She saved two set points but was edged out 8-6. In the second set, she was broken early and failed to convert three break points in the sixth game, allowing Muchova to close out the match.

Raducanu’s Recent Struggles Continue

The defeat marks another setback in Raducanu’s turbulent 2025 season. She had ended a four-match losing streak in the first round by defeating Maria Sakkari in straight sets. However, prior to that, she had suffered early exits in Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Singapore, along with a third-round loss to Iga Swiatek at the Australian Open.

This isn’t the first time Raducanu has faced security concerns. In February 2022, stalker Amrit Magar walked 23 miles to her home and took her father’s shoe as a souvenir. He was later handed a five-year restraining order.

Despite her challenges, Raducanu will be looking to regain form as the season progresses.
