Alexander Zverev has made his ambitions clear—he wants to challenge Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz for the World No. 1 ranking. Speaking at the Rio Open, the German acknowledged that while he has yet to reach the top spot, he is determined to close the gap and improve his game.

“I’m not number one in the world yet, but I want to be,” Zverev stated. “My goal is to fight for the big titles and the top spot in the rankings with Alcaraz and Sinner. There are things they do better than me, and I have to improve.”

While Zverev has never held the No. 1 ranking, he has been ranked as high as World No. 2 since 2022. Despite reaching three Grand Slam finals—the US Open, French Open, and Australian Open—he has yet to claim a Major title.

Among his most notable achievements are an Olympic gold medal in singles, won at the Tokyo Games, and two ATP Finals titles in 2018 and 2021.

Where Are the ATP Top 3 Playing?

The ATP’s top three players—Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Carlos Alcaraz—are currently competing in different parts of the world.

  • Jannik Sinner (World No. 1) is serving a three-month suspension following a doping violation from March last year. The Italian tested positive for clostebol, an illegal substance, but was initially cleared by the ITIA. However, after WADA appealed for a harsher punishment, he agreed to a three-month ban, which will end on May 4, 2025.
  • Alexander Zverev (World No. 2) is competing at the Rio Open, looking to bounce back after a quarterfinal exit in Argentina. He has once again reached the quarterfinals in Brazil, where he will face Francisco Comesana.
  • Carlos Alcaraz (World No. 3) is in action at the Qatar Open in Doha, where he has reached the quarterfinals after defeating Marin Cilic and Luca Nardi. The Spaniard is in strong form, coming off a title win in Rotterdam.

With all three players on different paths, the race for the No. 1 ranking remains an exciting battle to watch in the coming months.
